The students and staff at KMS celebrated Black History Month every day in February of 2019. The WKMS crew began each day with a news feature about black inventors, civil rights leaders, and athletes. During spirit week, we wore African attire, dressed up as famous African Americans, and wore t-shirts from historically black colleges. Homerooms made banners for different countries. Congratulations to the winners of the banner contest: Mrs. Murphy (8th), Ms. Thomas (7th), Mrs. Harley (6th & Overall), and Ms. Gaffney (Exceptional Ed). Students presented a wax museum, featuring famous African Americans, at the Riverdale Town Center. They were part of a Black History program which took place on February 22nd. A Black History program was held in the gym on February 28th. Students sang, danced, recited poetry and speeches, and shared the wax museum presentation. The chorus and percussion section of the band also performed. Free Life Boyz made a guest appearance and Mrs. Gibson-Brown was awarded her Teacher of the Year sweater.
