On Wednesday, December 7th, students attended a helicopter fly-in by Captain Barrington Irving, as part of "The Flying Classroom" STEM+ curriculum created by Captain Irving. He is the first black pilot to fly solo around the world and holds the Guinness World Record as the youngest person to fly solo around the world at the age of 23. The curriculum features STEM+ expeditions in near-real time, incorporating literacy, math, science, social studies, technology and critical thinking that are aligned with the National Academic/Technical Standards. Students witnessed two helicopters land in the parking lot of the CCPS Performing Arts Center before participating in a special presentation by Captain Irving.
